Idle murmers with just a slight political tone…

It would seem we have a new Deputy President.

It is Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, who happens to be mostly clean and free from corruption, as long as nobody mentions the Oilgate saga.

Oops. sorry about that… At least this one seems to have a higher price than the previous one; which I, for one, appreciate.

There are upsides to it as well, of course. I would not be at all surprised to hear that this was the highest position achieved by a woman in a free democracy on the African continent. With some luck, our next president will be a woman. I’m quite supportive of that: so far we men have had a rather torrid track record running counties in Africa.

Not that the last woman in charge in South Africa did all that sterling a job, mind you, it’s just that we men have done well worse…

I must admit I am glad the Prez chose not to let Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma try and finish the job on the citizens she had started as Minister of Health. We’re in enough of a fix in South Africa, without needing that as well… To be fair, though, she’s doing okay as Foreign Affairs minister.

But, what does it all mean though, in real people’s lives? In my opinion, not a hell of a lot. After all has been said and done, they’re all still politicians, and I’m with Billy Connelly on this: “A desire to enter politics should bar one from it for life…”
