Strange how life works: time after time I find that messages or missives I had originally intended for other people ended up, years later, becoming notes to myself… I’m either very wise or the universe has a very wicked sense of humour…

Had an idle thought (to be frank, I think I seldom have any other) in the gym yesterday evening: Some of us might have been put on earth to lead as an example, but most of us, I believe, have been put here to serve as a warning…

While it has been said, at least somewhat truthfully, that I am easily amused, I must admit to being rather amused that while my Blog renders quite fine on Classilla in my emulated — near pre-historic — MacOS 9 environment, Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 seems to have some issues… This makes me happy.

Just when you’re ready to start losing faith in humanity, something good… Nay great! happens…

This sounds eerily familiar: Why Delhi’s Buses Are So Deadly: An Economic Analysis… Sounds much like the life of the average Taxi Driver in Josi, doesn’t it?

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why Pixar is one of the good guys.

Hmm… So it’s fine to kill off all Christians in a cathedral, but just dare sing some Muslim words

This world really pisses me off at times…

For all of us who have pondered the eternal question of what love really is, wonder no more! I have Jack Handey coming to our rescue:

Love is not something that you can put chains on and throw into a lake. That’s called Houdini. Love is liking someone a lot.

Well, there you have it then…

Ultimate Game

Ernest Gary Gygax, one of the good guys, passed away on, fittingly enough, Games Master’s Day, the 4th of March 2008.

RIP Dungeon Master, and thanks for all the dice…

A very good friend of mine just sent me this quote. I wish I could find the original author, but the net’s flooded with un-attributed copies. And now I, of course, will just exacerbate the problem… :-)

Never take someone for granted. Hold every person close to your heart, because you might wake up one day and realize that you’ve lost a diamond while you were to busy collecting stones.

Ironic, since I used a similar analogy about half-a-year ago, without having been aware of this one. I wish I had, since this had been put better than I had managed then.

Now this elicited a rather poignant smile…

Onward and outward...

But, yeah. Things change. People move on… Bonne chance, ma chérie. Au revoir…

This would be so damned funny:

If only it wasn’t just so gut-wrenchingly true…

It’s been said that the second hardest thing in life is knowing which bridges to cross, and which to burn. The hardest is the regret of crossing those that you should have burnt, and having burnt those that you should have crossed…

Strangely enough, an issue I’ve been faced with quite frequently… ;-)

As Caesar said crossing the River Rubicon on his way to Rome, “Alea iacta est”… And the die has truly been cast. While I’m writing this they’re still in the air and I have no idea what they will fall on, but what I do know is that I will play the numbers I have been dealt as faithfully and honourably as I’m able.

The hardest part about doing nothing is knowing when to quit.

One can say much the same for feeling sorry for oneself. And the time for that has come for me. Thank you to all who’ve been patiently waiting for me to get my head out of my butt. And to those who couldn’t (or wouldn’t) wait for me; it was nice knowing you. I wish you well on your journey.

“Men have died from time to time, and worms have eaten them, but not for love.”
  – As You Like It, Rosalind, Act IV scene I

Cynical, maybe; but true none the less I suppose. Bullets work better.

I’ve been thinking. Therein lies the danger I know, but it’s too late now. It has already happened. But I’ve been thinking: when is enough, enough? When does a wise man call it quits? When do you concede a fight, shake hands with your opponent and give him the hearty “Well, the better man won”? How many times do you need to lose the battle before you consider the war lost?
